Efficiency

Applying the Kaizen philosophy, the entire company works every day to constantly improve its energy profile and production efficiency, but also to reduce waste production by applying the principles of the circular economy and to improve waste management.

Energy efficiency

A large number of interventions have been carried out over the years on the production lines, auxiliary and general services of all our plants.

For example, 17 electric presses have now been installed to replace hydraulic units, which, compared to 2016, have led to an 18% reduction in the specific consumption - kWh/kg - of the moulding department: in other words, every kg of raw material processed in the department consumes 18% less electricity.

We have also acted on the compressed air systems, with leakage search and repair, which is conducted three times a year at each plant. Once losses were minimised, all compressor rooms in the various production plants were revamped with specific savings - kWh/m3 - of up to 50%.

Where possible, we have installed IE3/IE4 class motors instead of less efficient units and inverters, revamped all lighting fixtures, installed condensing boilers, and adopted low-temperature heating systems, insulating all plants with high-performance insulation panels.

Overall, from 2010 to date, the electricity savings obtained thanks to all energy efficiency improvement measures amounted to 16,339,756 kWh, equivalent to the consumption of one year of 6,052 households and a reduction of 4,664 tonnes of CO2.

Thanks to a monitoring system consisting of more than 400 meters (which measure the use of electricity, methane gas, steam, compressed air, heat and all the production and climate variables on which the energy we use depends), we are now able to measure and verify the achievement of our energy, economic and environmental targets.

Waste management

The European Union's action plan for the circular economy aims to halve the amount of municipal waste that is not recycled by 2030. The EU's waste policy refers to a five-step directive, introduced in 2018.

The first priority is prevention of waste generation, followed by re-use, recycling and other forms of recovery, with disposal (including landfill) as a last resort.

The new policies, which include the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan 2020 and the Waste Framework Directive, set two key waste targets:*****

We have made the European targets our own, working every day to consciously manage the waste that is produced in our plants.
