The evolution of sound-insulating systems

WASTE SYSTEMS

When it comes to comfortable living conditions, we refer to those factors that make a living space conducive to well-being, i.e., temperature, air quality, sound and light.

And if we’re talking about waste systems, it’s rather obvious how residential construction today prescribes (through the adoption of specific standards) the installation of products that can ensure a limited noise level, especially in contexts of high-density housing.

Triplus is one of the leading products in Valsir’s range of waste systems. It is a push-fit system made up of three layers of material, a combination that guarantees excellent mechanical characteristics (even a low temperatures) and outstanding sound-insulating performance.

Triplus

The outer layer of Triplus is in polypropylene (PP). It is the “shell” that provides the pipe with a high impact resistance and considerable mechanical protection. The intermediate layer is a mix of polypropylene and mineral fillers (MF), which further consolidates the pipe structure and, most importantly, determines the sound insulation of the system. And third, a final layer of polypropylene on the inside of the pipes ensures excellent resistance to dissolved chemicals in civil and industrial drains and features an extremely smooth surface to facilitate run-off of waste water and prevent the accumulation of deposits.

Assets of Triplus pipes

Triplus is a socket-type system of pipes and fittings: this means that installation does not require any special equipment and laying the system is quick and problem-free.

As regards resistance to temperature, Triplus can transport – discontinuously – fluids having a maximum temperature of 95°C, whereas in terms of shock resistance and resistance to mechanical stress, the maximum is -25°C.

Triplus is also an environmentally sustainable drainage system: its materials are 100% recyclable!

As we said, one of the key aspects of this waste system is its sound-insulating performance. Triplus pipes have a noise level of 12 dB(A) with a flow rate of 4 l/s: here we are referring to structural noise, measured in accordance with the standard EN 14366 (the test is conducted using a “test building” anchored with a waste stack considering that the effective noise level of a system can be measured only when installed).

And in terms of the operating range, there is wide availability of diameters – from DN 32 mm to DN 250 mm – with the possibility to connect Triplus to system elements made of different materials (cast iron, PE, PVC, etc.) thanks to the use of special fittings.

Even if this is not a functional characteristics strictly speaking, it’s worth noting the eco-sustainable properties of the system. In accordance with Green Building principles, Triplus is fully recyclable at the end of its life.
