Troy Bayliss is a legend for Ducati and the world of motorcycle racing. The World Superbike champion, born 37 years ago in Taree, Australia, returned to the category in 2006 after three years in MotoGP to take his second title. He was then called in for the last 2006 MotoGP race as replacement for Sete Gibernau, a race he dominated to take that long sought-after maiden GP win.
His entry into the official Ducati World Superbike team in the first few months of 2000 came about following Carl Fogarty’s career-ending crash in 2000. Sixth overall in his first season was followed by the Australian’s domination in 2001 as he took the title. After losing out to Colin Edwards in the legendary Imola 2002 finale, Bayliss spent the next two years in GP racing with Ducati and one more with Honda before coming back to where he feels at home, World Superbike. His twelve wins in 2006 are testimony to the incredible competitiveness of the Australian. In 2007 Bayliss ends the season in fourth place and he will continue racing with the Ducati Xerox Team in 2008.
